Joseph Mallord William Turner

Born: April 23,1775
Death: December 19, 1851
Birth Place: England
JMW Turner was an Englishman known for his beautiful romantic landscape paintings and watercolor art work. Blessed with great talent, Turner started painting at a very young age when he went to live with his uncle due to family issues. He was so talented that at the age of 14, Turner was accepted into an art academy. His artwork first became famous at a Summer Expedition only a year after being accepted into the art academy.

One of his earlier works. "Fisherman at Sea"

Turner traveled around Europe, mostly to France and Switzerland. Some of his favorite places to study were the Louvre in Paris and Venice. His style was mainly watercoloring, natural events like rain, sunlight, fog, and catastrophes.

I move his style, it's very calmly yet eery at the same time. It makes me feel like I'm in another world. He really took time on his art and he great at setting a cheerful theme. My favorite is the one right below this paragraph. It's very well crafted and this city was beautifully architected. I'm very glad I was giving this man to do research on, because it's definitely my style.

Turner was not famous at all during his time, because he did not paint the modern paintings of his time. Usually people painted the super realistic paintings of men or woman. So when people saw his chicken scratch looking paintings, they didn't consider it art. Turners paintings didn't become famous until the 20th century.

  1. Wow his stuff is amazingly beautiful. one sure can lose his/her-self in one of his paintings. Its amazing to see how far one can go with water colors. I too also like the one at the pier. i can totally see myself sitting in front of the piece of art work for hours day dreaming. Any painting that i can day dream into our my favorites. I like when paintings can take me away to another place and tell its own story. Joseph mallord william turner's work most defiantly does that.

  2. Joseph Mallord Williams Turner's work is hypnotic to me. Some of these pictures seem to be expressing fear or confusion of the surrounding ocean. As though he feels that he is sinking.
